Good afternoon,Ladies and Gentlemen:
Life is a series of choice,from toothpaste to the one we love.The choice we are facing today is quite confusing.It's just like forcing me to choose between my father and mother.We know culture and science are well connected since the birth of humanbeing.And both of them are indispensable whether in the past or future.
So how can we just pick one from them,is there a better way to go?
Actually we have met this question in high school for the first time.When the first year finished,we were asked to choose what to learn for the next two years,liberal arts or science?To tell the truth,I'm still regreting for I choose to study science because all the knowledge about physics,chemistry and biology now seems useless.In our Advanced English classes,what we need is all about the background knowledge of Middle East,WW2,Hitler's Invasion and so on.Nothing like my classmates,I have to start from scratch.I have to borrow books related to world history and politics.I even have to memorize the location of every country in the world!How pathetic my life is!and how i wish i was culture smart!
In fact,everyone should try his best to become culture smart,no matter old or young,men or women,whatever the job he does.For this,I didn't mean being science intelligent is unnecessary.It’s just being culture smart is more urgent and essential.
On one hand,our society need the guidance and restriction of culture smart.over the years,a series of problems concerning enviroment pollution,green house effect,energy crisis has been brought by the development of science.Fortunately,some people have realized that and began to take action.The standing committees has just passed a resolution about adopting vigorous measures to deal with the climate change.It is our culture smart that enables our science develop in a healthy way.
On the other hand,to be culture smart is the general trend in today’s world.When we read a book,when we write a report,when we make friends with foreigners,when we travel around the world,when we do business,even when we give a speech,it seems like culture smart is becoming a necessity in our daily life.
Ladies and gentlemen,now that culture and science are both indispensable,plus culture smart plays such an irreplacable role,we have another way to go instead of just choosing one.That is to regard culture smart as a necessity to learn while the science intelligence as the icing on the cake.
