Germans set to party
德国人看来严谨刻板.其实他们热爱美食和啤酒,很懂得享受生活!

GERMANS are known for many things. They are often thought of as being precise and very hard-working.In the kitchen, measuring cups (量杯) are used to get exactly the right amount of salt.Being late by one minute is considered rude.
When people think of Germany, they think their skills in technology and engineering.German cars are among the safest in the world.Everyone envies how well they make machines.
But Germans want a different image as the World Cup starts. They'd like the event to be the greatest party in the world.Germans see the Cup as a chance to show they are fun and hospitable (热情好客的) too.
Indeed, there are a lot more to Germans than just these stereotypes (常规说法).
Germans like to travel a lot. They have long vacations every year.Millions of them go abroad for that time. Many come back and share their experiences at parties.
Germans have a great love for food and drink. The most popular meals involve "meat and potatoes".Most dishes are made with these.Hamburgers were also invented by the Germans. They prefer to eat heavy flavours (风味),using plenty of mustards (芥末) and sauces (酱).
Germany has 1,500 different kinds of sausages (香肠).You'll also find 300 kinds of bread to go with the sausages.
Germany has excellent wine and beer.Visitors must go to the "Beer Garden" in Munich (慕尼黑).Its "Oktoberfest" is the largest beer festival in the world. It's celebrated with great music and dancing too.Over the 16-day festival, people drink huge amounts of beer.As the World Cup begins, there will be a lot of Germans enjoying a bottle of cold beer with each game.
So prepare for a very colourful World Cup in Germany!
Germany finds creative ways to celebrate the Cup:
Special toilet paper (卫生纸) will have World Cup history questions and answers printed on it.
Some sausages will be shaped like football shoes. They are packaged (包装) in the colours of different national flags.
Other foods will come in strange shapes too, such as "soccer ball" noodles and a "World Cup" of potato salad.

THE 'Acronym',our student newspaper, reports that the average student goes to sleep at 1:30 am.Even if that's an exaggeration (夸张),it's too close to the truth.Scientists say teens should sleep nine hours each night. But that's hard to do.
Some even "pull all-nighters".These are lazy students who have homework due (到期) the next day that they haven't done.In the morning they don't look healthy and you can tell who's been doing it.
One of my classmates did a survey on the issue. She found that most kids pull all-nighters (开夜车) to finish homework, but some do it for other reasons, such as playing computer games!
Maybe our lack of sleep is because of laziness - I think I'm a fairly lazy student - or maybe it's because we have too much to do in American high schools.
HELP
issue n.问题
lack v.缺乏
drowsy adj.困倦的
I usually go to bed around midnight. If I stayed up past 1:30 am,I wouldn't get any work done.I'd be falling asleep at my computer. My classes begin at 7:30 am.I'm partly awake in my first class.By the second,I'm slightly drowsy.By my third class,I'm sleepy.By midday I'm finally wide-awake.But by 3:00 pm,I'm slowing down again.Yet I get more sleep than the Acronym's "average student".
Most American high schools seem to have a similar problem with sleepy students.
High school classes start at 7:30 am,so students have to wake up one and a half hours before that to get ready and catch the bus. It's believed that lack of sleep can damage (损害) both grades and health.
Some schools are paying attention.Classes in those schools start at 8:30 am.
