英译版的西游记中猪八戒就是翻译成Piggie的．
猪八戒的师傅与三十六变之迷?
The riddle of Piggie's master and 36 changes.
西游记中没有写猪八戒的师傅,但我猜测猪八戒的师傅是道教祖师.
猪八戒的职位是天蓬元帅,统帅十万天河水军.这么高的的职位,
他的师傅就算不是三清(太上老君,原始天尊,灵宝道君),
应该也是道德真君这一等级的人了.
In the Story of a Journey to the West,Piggie's master is not mentioned,but I guess he must be the founder of Taoism.Piggie's title is Tianpeng Marshal,who is in charge of 100 thousand navy soldiers in the heaven.His title is so high,that his master belongs to either Taoist trinity(Supreme Laojun,Primitive Heaven Senior,Lingbao Taoist),or the rank of Daoist Immortal.
再说,为什么我肯定猪八戒的师傅是道教祖师.这是因为他的法术:
天罡三十六变.从孙悟空学艺可以看出,天罡地煞变化乃是道教神通
(菩提祖师就是道教地仙).所以猪八戒的师傅肯定是道教祖师,
因为这天罡地煞学会是可以长生的,不是某个路人甲都能学到的.
Then,why can I affirm that Piggie's master is the founder of Taoist.That is becaust of his magical power,Tian-gang 36 changes.We know from the course of Sun Wu-kungs' apprentice,Tian-gang and Di-sha changes belong to the magical power of Taoist(Banyan Founder is the earth celestial being of Taoist).So Piggie's master must be the founder of Taoist,becaust if one can learn Tian-gang and Di-sha,he or she will live forever,this skill can not be learnt by someone who is ordinary.
最后说下猪八戒为什么只会三十六变,这可能是因为猪八戒懒,
不肯多学,在加上资质有限所以他学到了三十六变.这也是我的猜测.
书上并没这么写.
At last,I want to explain why does Piggie has only 36 changes.That may be because Piggie is lazy,who is unwilling to learn more,what's more,his lalent is limited,so he can only learn 36 changes.These are all my guess,and there are no record in the book.
三十六变不是说只能变三十六样东西,而是指三十六种形态,简单说,
就是动物类,食品类等等类别.猪八戒学艺不精,他后来就变不了很多类别了,只会变些大石头,大树.变个女孩还得孙悟空帮忙.
36 changes do not mean he can only turn into 36 kinds of thing,but mean 36 forms,in short,they are animal forms,food forms,etc..Piggie did not learn well,so he can not turn into many forms,but only turn into some big stone,big tree.If he wants to turn into a girl,he must ask Sun Wu-kungs for help.
