In different countries,people behave differently when they receive girfts and send gifts under different circumstances.Why different?It's probably because of the cultural background and personal perferences.
When people attend a wedding party,the type of gifts and the way of sending gifts are different in China and the U.S.In China,people will go to the wedding party and give money as a gift to congratulate the recently married couple.However,in the U.S.,the couple will have something called wedding registry.The couple will list the things they want,and people can simply purchase the item online,which will be sent to the couple at their address.
At other times,for example,holidays or birthdays,people in both China and the U.S.will give presents to good friends.However,in the U.S.,people may also give gift cards to relatives or someone that very closely related.It's quite easy to get a gift card.One can go to a store and put some money in the gift card and then give the card to another person.
The most significant difference is the way people receive gifts.In China,people are supposed to receive the gifts and only open them after the givers are left; however,in the U.S.,people are supposed to open the gifts right away and say how much they love the gifts.
Because of those differences,when a person is in a different place,it is important to understand the culture and custom in that country so that he won't behave imappropriately or be considered rude in a particular sitatuion.
