what would you do if went to a country where you did not spe

It's always difficult when you are in a foreign country and do not know the native language. If I was in such a situation these are some of the things that I would do:
First of all, I would try to find a native guide who could take me around and who could speak my language.That way it wouldn't matter if I didn't understand what the people were saying, my guide could translate it for me.
Secondly, before going to the country I would buy or borrow from the library books on that certain language. I would try my best to learn as much as I can, even if I'm not very fluent a few simple words and phrases can be of great help.For example,"Where is the bathroom?" would be a very useful phrase to learn.
Last of all, I would see if I knew anybody who was able to speak that foreign language. If by any chance someone did, I would ask if they would like travel with me,and that way they could be my translator.
Of course, since English is such a universal language, if I really couldn't make myself understood in that country, I would try speaking English. Most people can at least understand some simple English.
