The picture of my signature is concerned with the theory of optical illusion, which is involved in the principle of sensation and perception in psychology.Sometimes, human perceptions are based on inappropriate assumptions,e.g.visual illusions.Like the staircase of my signature,it can be represented in two- dimensional space but cannot exist in three- dimensional space. At first glance you may look the picture fine, but a closer look reveals that it is geometrically inconsistent or impossible. You may perceive specific features of the picture as acceptable but are baffled as it is built into a whole.
Watch the person as he is running on the ascending staircase and all the way around, back to its starting point. It is quite contradictory! Why?Please closer look the picture!Whether you have been aware that there are not enough layers for all the steps. From the step of your left- hand as a starting point, the staircase can be either seen as ascending or descending from different directions and connects with the step in the foreground in an impossible way.Simply speaking,it is an inconsistent staircase. In fact, the artist has intensified some vanishing point on the picture, and making it looks an impression of conformity. The illusion exposes an inherent ambiguity in depth and is a false perspective.
Optical illusions involve a variety of categories, which take advantage of human innate limitations on optical functions and deceive our eyes! It’s definitely hard to identify the principles of each illusion picture because a talented artist or psychologist is able to strong the vanishing points on a picture, and making it seems more natural.
To Delphinus:have you ever learned some background knowledge relative to psychology? The illustrations of your post are partly accurate. It is inevitable that past life experiences have absolutely important influences to optical illusions! It has been proved that those who live in undeveloped areas,e.g.African primitive tribes, are less prone to see the illusions than those living in modern society. Our life spaces are exposed to a “rectangular world”,dominated by straight lines, right angles, rectangular rooms, buildings, and etc,and all of which foster our optical illusions. The reason is obvious that a number of optical illusions are generated as the result of perceptive perplexity by numerous intercrossed straight lines, rectangular, and some shape- overlapped objects. However,it is known that some extremely poor areas in which people are exposed to less ‘rectangular spaces'in their world. For instance,column-shaped houses occupy relatively high proportions. In short, according to the explanation of specialists, people’s perceptual inferences can be shaped by experience!Illusions demonstrate that human perceptions are not simple reflections of objective reality.
