pure brightness festival,is one of the 24 solor terms held on april 5th annually or so by our Han nationality as one of the most significant troditional festivals.it is said that there's a Cold Food Festival the day right before pure brightness day and was originated from that the Duke Jinwen grieved over Jiezitui's cutting his own thigh meat to allay his hunger in the Spring and Autumn Period,and as time went by,the two festivals finally were made one.
Folklore has it that the Cold Food Festival is held in memory of that jiezitui was set fire to death in mount.mian in the Spring and Autumn period and the Duke jinwen gave orders to forbidden firing.jiezitui was from shanxi,so as a result,the custom of eating cold food was prevalent in shanxi
first.in the old ages,when there came the cold food festival,people should banned fire,and the next day there would be a ceremony drilling wood to make new fire in the palace,and nongovernmentally ordinary people mostly begged for new fire mutually by using willow twigs.
