I moved to japan about a year and a half ago from England.I left a lot of good friends back in Britain and ,as is often the case,I don't keep in touch with them as often as I should.
Now I have a phone and a tablet computer,so as well as the joy of being able to work from pretty much anywhere,I can keep in touch with friends...at least friends who use computers!
It's so easy to communicate with e_mail messages and Skype that i can't live without them.Unfortunately,however,it's easy to lose touch with people who don't connect this way.
My sister.for example,rarely uses a computer.But to my surprise my parents have adopted Skype ,so we now talk more than we did back in England.
It's amazing how quickly things have changed.I can't remember the last time I wrote a letter.My lack of enthusiasm when it came to letter-writing always used to cause me guilt,as I would put off writing for weeks on end.I really appreciate the ease with which one can push a "send"or "call"button.I wonder how my son will communicate when he grows up.I can imagine pestering him in a few years time as my parents did me to write letters.
