1 INTRODUCTION
For the proper running of most apparatus in which twophase
 ow appears,the generation of a strictly speciŽ ed
two-phase  ow pattern is required.Investigation of the
process in industrial conditions requires the use of an
objective method of identiŽ cation that is based on measurable
characteristic features of the speciŽ ed two-phase  ow.
As far as single-phase  ow is concerned,deŽ nition of the
velocity distribution is enough,but in two-phase  ow the
deŽ nition of phase concentration is also very important [1].
There has been signiŽ cant research into the recognition of
phase concentration,and various measurement techniques
have been developed.
Most of these measurement methods are based on a
visual estimation of the  ow structure,which is performed
manually using a comparison scale to draw conclusions.
Unfortunately,the results of this approach are very subjective.
In this connection it is necessary to develop a universal,
precise,quick and cheap method of measurement.
Digital processing image methods have this advantage.In
comparison with commonly used methods of recognition of
two-phase  ow structures,the distinguishing marks of
digital methods are a fast time of response,repeatable
results and elimination of the subjective human factor for
direct measurements.This method can be used in a range of
hostile environments where human intervention is not
possible .
