The horrors of the Nanjing Massacre were remembered again on Friday with the Beijing premiere of the film,"City of Life and Death".
Director Lu Chuan says this Chinese take on the massacre by invading Japanese forces highlights the resilient spirit of the Chinese people,rather than the weakness and hopelessness of the victims.
The 80-million-yuan film took four years to make with the voluntary assistance of more than 20,000 college students.
In December 1937,the Japanese army occupied Nanjing and began six weeks of killing,rape and pillage.
More than 300,000 disarmed soldiers and civilians were murdered,according to Chinese estimates.
Originally titled "Nanjing!Nanjing!",the film will be released internationally next week.
