圣诞夜,宁静中洋溢着温暖祥和.
Christmas Eve, Silent Night
Christmas Eve is the quietest night in the year in my hometown. It always reminds me of the famous Christmas carol, Silent Night. The first words of the carol are: “Silent night, holy night; all is calm, all is bright.” The music is slow and soft and it captures the feeling that Christians experience on this special night.
Christmas Eve is the day before Christmas. During the day, it is anything but quiet. The streets of my town are filled with people doing their last minute Christmas shopping. Most offices close early, so the roads are jammed with rush hour traffic at two o’clock in the afternoon. Restaurants and stores close early, too. All business seems to come to an end by five o’clock and people hurry home to spend Christmas Eve with their families.
By seven o’clock all the streets are empty and you can begin to feel the magic of Christmas Eve. Everything is quiet. The cars and the people have disappeared. The night is dark and the air is cold, but the houses are all brightly lit. There is a warm yellow glow from each window as families gather for a meal and then put up the Christmas tree and tell their children Christmas stories. Outside, the houses are decorated with colored lights and cheerful scenes of Santa Claus, his sleigh and his reindeer.
I love Christmas Eve and the special feeling of peace that it brings. It is truly a silent night where all is calm and all is bright.
