The Amazon River
The Amazon River is the great river on Earth. It is one of the world's great rainforests（雨林） and it is longer than any river but the Nile.
The Amazon, the world's largest river in terms of volume（量,体积）, is almost 4,000 miles long, or 6,400 kilometers. and it runs to the northeastern coast of Brazil. Its source is in the Peruvian Andes（安第斯山脉） of 17,000 feet high, only 120 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the Amazon River flows more than 4,000 miles to empty into the Atlantic Ocean.
The Amazon and its tributaries flow through（流经） the countries of Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean 6, 437 kilometers (4,000 miles) from the Amazon's headwaters high in the Andes mountains of Peru. This huge watershed（分水岭） includes the largest tropical rainforest in the world as well as areas of dry grassland, or savannah（大草原）.
