i'm still not very clear what this essay is about.are you required to write this to reflect the social life,economy,industry or whatever of America during that period?if you want to concentrate on the economy,i suppose that a fisherman would be of a quite low social class.then you can describe how poor he was and how difficult it was to support the family of five (incl.his wife).to make it longer,you could also write about the social situation of the country at that time.eg.how the british government controled the mineral resources of america so that the country reamined to be one of agriculture and lacked rapid industrial development(i just guessed so.there is no clue.you need to find out what the case is).as a result,it was difficult for ordinary local people such as Jonathan Jones to make a living.you could also describe how badly the british colonizers treated local people (take Jonathan Jones for example).
