They had hardly arrived when it began to snow.和They were about to arrive when it began to snow.这两个句子意思好像是一样的吧,一个是过去完成时,一个是过去将来时,又不有区别?还是可以同一个意思两种用法都可以用?

再问: They had hardly arrived when it began to snow是不是翻译成‘他们一到就下雪了’但是没发现虚拟语气啊
