Topic :the government should control the amount of violence in films and on television in order to control violent crimes in society.To what extend do you agree or disagree?
The violent contents broadcasted by the mass media (the television and films in particular) have been highlighted in recent years as a matter of urgent public concern.Media watchdogs suggest that some programs should be limited so as to curb violence.I agree on this advice to some extend based on the following concerns.
First of all,violent movies promote heroism and individualism encouraging people to resolve conflicts through violence,rather than legal consultation.Some action movies have conveyed a perception to their audience,especially teenagers,that a hero can be highly regarded,regardless of the consequence of his behavior.Audiences imitate those role models,in a belief that their behavior will reap applause from others.Most of time,their actions evolve into violent crimes.
Another category of programs,which describe the details of crime on television,also open up the possibility of viewers engaging in violence.Aiming at a high audience rate,Tv program producers,in some reports,present the whole procedure of a law-offending practice,such a rape,robbery,shoplifting and burglary.Not surprisingly,these contents function like a free course from which potential criminals learn those skills.
However,we cannot attribute all of violent crimes to the development of media.Actually,reactions of viewers toward violence differ from individual to individual.The government should not only curb the release of violent films,but also emphasize the serious legal proceedings of violent behaviours,as well as tackle some social problems in our society.
In conclusion,censorship of media violence is undoubtedly one of the most effective means to reduce criminal rates.While there is no simple cause-and-effect relationship between media violence and violent crimes and both have multiple causes.
