The first time Dad gave me flowers,I was about 10.I took a class on clothing design.At the end of the lesson,we had a competition.I was so happy when the other students called out my name.I had won first place.Then they passed me some flowers from the back of the room.They were from my dad.
There were many people in the room,and Dad was just around the corner.But when I stood in front of them,I could only see Dad’s smile.And everyone was clapping,but I could only hear him clapping.
The second time he sent me flowers,I was 11.I was very unhappy that year because my parents were often away from home because of work.
On my 11th birthday,I was alone at home.I was sad.Looking at the big cake on the table,I felt like crying.
Suddenly,the doorbell rang.“ Is it Dad?” I dried my tears and ran to the door as quickly as I could.
A postman was standing there.I cried out,“It must be a letter from Dad!”
The postman smiled and said,“More than that.” He took something from behind his back.In his hands he was holding some of my favorite flowers.
“These are from your father,” the postman said.“And here’s a card.It says,for my sweetheart.” I was too excited to say anything.Tears began to fall down my face.
The postman came closer to me and said quietly,“You’re so lucky to have a father like him!”
This year on Dad’s birthday,I bought him the biggest flower I could find.I wanted him to feel as good as I had felt on my birthday.
