There are many sorts of holidays in the US.Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in many countries,but the date is not the same.In the US,it is the Thursday of the fourth week in November.Easter is the spring feast of the Christian church.The English name derives from Eostre,Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring,who was honored in April.It is for commemorating the resurrection of Jesus.It is a movable feast,falling on the first Sunday following the full moon after 21 March;that is between 22 March and 25 April.Good Friday is the anniversary of Jesus's death on the cross,the Friday before Easter.Among Christians it is a day of mourning and penitence.In the Orthodox,Roman Catholic and American churches,the saying of Mass is suspended.In the year 2003,it is on 18th of April.All souls Day,observed in the west on 2nd November,is the day on which Christians commemorate the souls of the faithful departed.Although officially abolished in Protestant countries at the REFORMATION,its tradition has been very widely maintained,and since the 19th century,its observance has been revived in the Catholic section of the CHURCH OF ENGLAND and the ANGLICAN COMMUNION generally.
