I do really have a great time this semester and am taking Spanish,linguistics,statistics,and microeconomics.Obviously,the courses related to language are my favorite .I am crushing on Spanish and going to be trilingual.Last Friday,during the linguistics discussion class,the professor was talking the diversity and the family of language.As you know,there are more than 1.3 billion Chinese speaker.So we were discussing Chinese at that class.The professor,she is Turkish,claimed that :"the term Chinese here represent Mandarin Chinese,which is depending on dialect in Beijing,does not represent any other Chinese dialects like Cantonese." I was wondering whether she did not mention Shanghainese.Have you ever watched the movie called Lust Caution?There are some dialogue in Shanghainese,it is freaking awesome!In additon,there are thousands songs,but have you heared any song in Shanghainese?Songs composed in Hongkong are in Cantonese.Songs created in Taiwan are in Mandarin Chinese.Even some Chinese rap is in Beijing dialect.Am I wrong?That would be the topic of the essay for final exam.Could you please provide me some more details?
