一道关于定语从句的英语语法题

问题描述：

一道关于定语从句的英语语法题
he is one of the specialists who study/studies about xxxxx.
这时study应该用单数还是复数？
换一句话说，这时的study是谁在study?我认为是specialists因为who 就紧跟在后面==（我不是很清楚）
如果这句话变成he is one of the specialists，who study/studies about xxxxx.
又会有什么改变？
希望可以客观的分析一下语法现象

有没有very不是关键 very换成only也可以
更不是什么就近原则
关键是前面有没有加定冠词“the”的区别：
the one of -- 后面单数；one of -- 后面复数.
he is the one of the specialists who studies about xxxxx.（强调he）
he is one of the specialists who study about xxxxx.（强调specialists）
这个问题在新概念第二册里出现过
Lesson 28 No Parking
上来第一句话就是
Jasper White is one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths.
这句话被认为是整套新概念丛书中唯一的错误
何其莘博士给出的解释是
one of those rare people who believes in ancient myths
of those rare people是修饰中心词one的
who believes in ancient myths也是修饰中心词one的
所以用单数没错
但是我的导师陆谷孙先生认为这里是错的
由于亚历山大先生已经去世无从考证
当年我的老师还曾向他的夫人问过这个问题他的夫人认为这里用法虽然生僻但是是正确的
所以这个问题没有纠结的必要
如果是考试
按照我上面的规则绝对不会出错
生活中也没有人会较真跟你说这个是对的还是错的
