Despite a growing number of applications,a more fundamental
understanding of the mechanics and physics
underlying the filling of these structures in the injection
molding process is only beginning to emerge.Therefore,
some authors have already presented their experimental
results in the replication of different surface structures

Mosaddegh and Angstadt 2008; Pranov et al.2006; Xu

also carried out numerical results with micro scale factors
like wall slip and mold surface roughness,and compared
their results to experimental tests.
In this paper a numerical model is developed to investigate
the filling of the micro-structures on the mold wall
during the injection molding cycle.
In this model the polymer flow in the surface structures
and in the main cavity is considered separately.This is valid if the volume flow in the surface structures is negligibly
compared to the volume flow in the main cavity.It
allows investigation into which ways several processing
parameters,cavity geometry and material parameters affect
the polymer flow in the surface structures.The model
implies the use of simple cavity geometries with a high
ratio of flow path to part thickness.
