六榕寺位于六榕路.它始建于梁大同三年（537年）,后北宋初毁于火灾,宋端拱花塔
二年（989年）重建,改名为净慧寺.后苏东坡来寺游览,见寺内有老榕六株,欣然题书“六榕”二字,后人遂称为“六榕寺”. 寺内有名塔为千佛,因其塔身斑斓,又称“花塔”.花塔高57米,11角形,外9层,内17层,是广州有名的古代高层建筑.塔东为山门、弥勒殿、天王殿和韦驮殿.塔西为庄严华丽的大雄宝殿,供奉清康熙二年（1663年）以黄铜精铸的三尊大佛像.佛像高6米,重10吨,是广东省现存最大的古代铜像. 寺内还有榕荫园.其内有六祖堂,观音殿、僧舍斋堂、功德堂等.六祖堂内还供有禅宗第六代祖师慧能的铜像,高1.8米,重约1吨,法貌庄严,垂目坐禅,栩栩如生.
