高中英语关于状语从句的省略：The man we followed suddenly...
The man we followed suddenly stopped and looked as if____ whether he was going in the right direction.
A.seeing
B.to see
我知道选B,因为可以将原句还原为"The man we followed ...and looked as if he was to see whether he was going in the right direction."
但如果将原句还原为"The man we followed...and looked as if he was seeing whether..."那么选A也说得通了?
这里是状从的省略把to do解释为表目的放在as if 后面说不通.
1.状语从句的省略应该是当从句中有与主句相同主语和系动词时，同时省掉从句主语与系动词成为状语从句省略句，因此若原句为as if he stopped to see说不通啊。
2.楼下的语义解释为“正在”至少说的走吧。

被我们跟着的那个男人突然停下来,看样子他似乎打算要看一下自己是否走对方向了.
be to do sth.是将来时,有“打算去做某事”的意思
这里was to do sth.是过去将来时,就是他在过去的那个时候,打算做某事
the man looked as if he was to do sth.那男人看起来似乎在打算着要做某事
想象一下那个情景,那个男人突然停下来了,但是还没有进一步的动作,不过看他的样子,感觉他像是在打算着（想要）看看自己是否走对方向了.
重点在于【he was to see.他有这个一个打算】还没发生的,是过去将来时
而as if he was seeing.be doing 是进行时,这里是过去进行时
那男人突然停下来,看样子他似乎正在看自己是否走对方向.
个人感觉没有那个as if he was to see （停下来了有这个一个打算,想去看看）这个好
如果是 the man suddenly stopped and pretended he was seeing .
他停下来,然后在假装自己正在.
这样子表述会好一点.
其实个人感觉像你那样子理解也行的,as if he was to see...as if he was seeing.
好像都行的,但是很多时候都是 choose the best one,不一定是the right one
没有选上的不一定就是错误的,有可能是别的选项更胜一筹而已
这题目就是那个情景,他停下来好像是要准备要看看.感觉更好
