水稻,是主动生长的.
但是这里是说,水稻“被种植”,所以用被动.
关于状语从句,这句话变成单独的句子就是：
Rice is usually grown in the areas.(There is plenty of water) in these areas.
那么,把这两个句子放在一起变成复合句,尤其是从句,就变成：
.in the areas where (there is plenty of water.)
