The dulcimer is one of the representative Chinese musical instruments. Its sound is crisp and pleasant to the ears with a charming and touching melody. The artistic expressibility of the dulcimer is particularly suitable for playing the cheerful and lively music. One of the Chinese dulcimer playing techniques is called the Chatter Bamboo technique. The skillful use of this technique enriches the special characheritics of the Chinese people in music, meanwhile there is no such a playing technique known in the dulcimer playing of other countries. This article will briefly analyze the characteristics of the Chatter Bamboo Techniques based on my personal experience in the performance, with an aim for the general public to understand better and to appreciate more about this unique technique.
