我是一个小菜鸟~最近写了练了一篇作文,有很多不足,求各位大虾批评~
Issue 127 Are facts “stubborn things”?
The speaker assets that facts are “stubborn things” and suggest men’s incapability of changing the fact with our wishes,inclinations or dedications.And to a limited degree I agree with this assertion when “facts” refer to physical laws or the mathematic formulas.But in a larger extent,men’s capability can actually affect even alter those “stubborn things”,in the field of engineering and history,to name just a few.
We generally accept the idea that some facts are stubborn and even our fondest wishes and earnest dedications can not help to change a little.A pot of water will get vaporized instead of froze after heating long enough and create a force so powerful to lift Watt’s pot lid.A ripped apple will drop from the apple tree instead of float in the air and hit on Newton’s head.Even the earth we live can be easily lifted if we could find Archimedes a long-enough lever and a strong-enough pivot point.
However,men’s ability can never be judged by the boundary of the physical laws.Water does run from a higher place to a lower place but we invent the pump to redirect the water flow direction.Less precipitation may occur in the sweltering summer but we managed to launch the rockets to help the raindrop form.Gravity keeps us on the ground but we do build the spaceships that they fly so high and so proud that make homes beyond the stars.I agree with the idea that physical laws are impeccable,however,men’s endeavor has at least manifested a possibility that we can live beyond those “stubborn facts”.
Yet perhaps the more appealing evidence lies in the history.It was Lincoln’s claim “we are not enemies but friends” that saw a separate country once again united as indispensable.It was Churchill’s “blood,toil,sweat” that witnessed the British Empire’s determination to check the salvage and determined assault of the Germany.“Who says the last word had been said?” we now know that our history is not destined but can be forged,thus prove once more that we are the genuine master of our own.
I am loath to end.Despite the evidence that some facts are stubborn which I partly agree,men’s reluctance to accept what is “stubborn and unchangeable” and willingness to innovate and explore the full possibilities has rose a great sense of pride in my heart.Perhaps it is one thing to obey the impeccable laws,it is another to strive hard to find us the promise land,and just as Clinton said,“here on earth,God’s work must truly be our own.”
