《千手观音》由总政歌舞团的团长、中国舞蹈界“世纪之星”惟一获得者、被称为“舞界奇才”的张继钢编导,由中国残疾人艺术团的聋哑舞蹈演员演出.经过几年的锤炼,这个舞蹈节目已经成为中国残疾人艺术团“我的梦”专场演出的保留节目,在40余个国家的演出均引起轰动.2004年9月28日,《千手观音》作为主打节目在雅典残奥会闭幕式的8分钟演出,技惊世界. 生活在无声世界中的残疾人,能够将《千手观音》演绎得几乎完美,是经过了一个漫长而艰难的过程.张继钢介绍,为了让演员感受到音乐的节奏,准确地同时出手,他借助手语老师来为演员传递信息,用手语告诉演员舞蹈的一招一式.演出时,四个手语老师分别站在舞台四个角,她们的手成为聋哑演员的“耳朵”,手语传达出音乐节奏,聋哑演员便在“节奏”中摆弄出优美的舞姿.
《千手观音》在脱离指导的舞台表演时演员主要是通过地板的震动来对准节拍从而通过震动熟悉节拍,此外因为跳舞的时候呼吸很大,所以也要靠呼吸来配合.用后颈感受后面的人的呼吸来统一动作.
在《千手观音》中,站在第一位的舞蹈演员邰丽华神态圣洁高雅,舞姿优美,像是整个舞蹈的灵魂.来自湖北的邰丽华2岁时失聪,15岁时学习舞蹈,舞姿成了她心灵的语言.邰丽华曾经获得过多个舞蹈的国际奖项,还曾以舞蹈《雀之灵》,成为中国惟一登上美国纽约卡内基音乐厅和意大利斯卡拉大剧院两大世界顶级艺术殿堂的舞蹈演员.她表演的《雀之灵》深深打动了著名舞蹈家杨丽萍,杨丽萍也成了她的指导老师.
