Born Jeffrey Atkins,Ja Rule was initially part of the group Cash Money Click. It wasn't until1998,however,that he signed with Def Jam Records and was featured in Jay-Z's “Can I Get A...” A year later,Ja Rule released his solo debut “Venni Vetti Vecci”.Its single “Holla Holla” boosted the record up to platinum.
Ja Rule's sophomore album,“Rule 3:36” (2000) spawned the hits “Between Me and You” and “Put It On Me”.Embraced by the public,it went on to become a multi-platinum album. It was followed by Ja Rule's third album “Pain Is Love” the next year, and bore the hits “Livin' It Up”,“Always On Time” (introducing the very talented Ashanti to the world) and “So Much Pain”,a tribute to the legendary Tupac Shakur. This album became Ja Rule's second multi-platinum album.
Ja Rule's fourth studio album “The Last Temptation”,released in 2002,was unfortunately not quite as successful. While it has certified hits in “Thug Lovin'” (featuring Bobby Brown) and “Mesmerize” (featuring Ashanti),it was said to lack something his previous albums had.It was followed by the 2003 record “Blood in My Eye”,which was essentially a hate album directed at artists with whom Ja Rule was known to feud.Artists dissed in the album include 50 Cent,Eminem,Dr.Dre,Busta Rhymes,Diddy and Snoop Dogg.
Ja Rule's most recent album,2004' s “R.U.L.E.” only achieved gold status.Still,it had hits in “Wonderful” (with R.Kelly),“New York” (with Fat Joe and Jadakiss) and “Caught Up” (with Ashanti and Lloyd).
Ja Rule is currently working on a mix tape as well as his next album “Mirror” (to be released in 2007).Tentative tracks from the mix tape as well as “Mirror”'s single “Free” are posted on his MySpace page.
