In this study,the system design procedure can be described as follows.According to the plastic production’s size,shape,producing condition,mould machining condition,
the machining cost and other factors,the type of the injection mould machine,parting surface,gate,cold-slug-well,ejection mechanism,side core-pulling mechanism,mould base,and so on,were determined.The design project was provided for the injection mould engineer.The IDSIMP was developed using Pro/E as the CAD developing platform,Pro/TOOLKIT as the system developing tool,VC as the developing language,CLIPS 6.21 as the deduce tool.The system structure is given in Fig.1.
The system consists of the main modules:user interface,knowledge acquisition and improvement,knowledge base,CLIPS knowledge deduce machine,and design process management and so on.The user interface is the medium between the system and users to make intercommunication and information exchanging.It receives the information needed by the system running,such as the plastic workpiece’s producing condition,batch production,and
precision requirement and so on,and some other information that is difficult for the system to obtain automatically at present,such as some design features of the plastic workpiece.Via the information exchange with users,the system’s running efficiency and its accuracy can be improved.Fig.2 shows the system design procedure main interface.The reasoning results from the knowledge reasoning are expressed in many ways:1) exhibition in the main interface; 2) corresponding 3D model and animation description; 3) data documents.The module of acquisition and improvement knowledge can reduce the knowledge engineers’ effect in the process of the knowledge base foundation apparently,which can lead to the complete knowledge model’s foundation as far as possible in the specific knowledge realm for the system.Meanwhile it also means the system has to implement the integrality checking,analysis of the knowledge collected,
and the new knowledge’s integration to the knowledge base
automatically,then the error checking,testing,improving
and optimizing are all finished by the design experts with the
knowledge auto-acquiring module directly.
Knowledge base consists of rule base and case base,
which includes the experts’ knowledge related to the IMPD,
such as:the injection mould machine selection,parting
surface design,the amount of mould cavity and their layout,
the feeding system design,mould base selection,ejection
mechanism design,cooling system design,side core-pulling
mechanism design,and so on.
