不能用形容词 usual（平素的/惯常的）是,应该改为副词 usually（通常/一般）.形容词放在这里不伦不类.
1、如果是这样,即 He gets up earlier than usually,那么 than 后省略了与上文重复的 he gets up ,也就是：
He gets up earlier than he usually gets up
其实这个句子也可以用 does 代替 gets up——
He gets up earlier than he usually does.
2、如果就是 usual,那么就是丢掉了介词和 usual 修饰的名词——
He gets up earlier than on usual days.他比平素日子起得早.
同样是 He gets up earlier than he does on usual days（He gets up earlier than he gets up on usual days）的省略.
3、as usual 是习惯用语,表示“如同往常一样/照例”,但是不能和比较级用在一起,只能说——
He gets up early as usual.他同往常一样起得早.
4、He ate more for lunch today than he usually does（he ate today 和 he usually does 进行比较）
这句话完全正确,也可以用更加简洁的省略——
He ate more for lunch today than usually.（ today 和n usually 进行比较）
