而should和can,都有表示“可能”的意思,为什么选can呢?
should：(表示可能性、推测、推论或期待)可能,该,例如：

所以,should 一般用于还没发生的事的推测
can：(表示可能性)可能,可能会,指理论上或是逻辑判断上.例如：
I think the work can be completed ahead of time.
我认为这项工作能提前完成.
可以表示对过去,也可以表示将来发生的事.
这个句子的意思是：我找不到书了,我可能把它放在哪儿了呢?
这是表示逻辑判断上的推测,所以要用can.
