1) so that (在结果状语从句中) 以致;结果
eg: He didn’t plan his time well, so that he didn’t finish the work in time.
The lift was out of order, so that we had to walk to the 10th floor.
2) so that (在目的状语从句中) 以便
eg: Would/Could you speak slowly so that everyone can hear you?
They set out/start off early (so) that they might arrive at the airport/airfield in time.
3) so that 引导的目的状语从句和结果状语从句的区别在于:
① 用so that 引导的结果状语从句中, 无情态动词, 而在目的状语从句中则有.
eg: I sent/posted this letter by air mail, so that he received it in good time. (表示结果, 是结果状语从句)
I sent/posted this letter by air mail, so that he could receive it in good time. (表示目的,是目的状语从句)
② 用so that 引导的结果状语从句不可置于句首, 而目的状语从句可.
eg: So that /In order that they could catch the first bus, they got up early this morning. (目的状语从句, 可置于句首)
The policeman waved to the driver, so that he stopped his taxi/cab. (结果状语从句,不可置于句首)
4） so+adj./adv.+that 如此…… 以致于……
eg: Tom ran so quickly that he won the race.
She was so happy that she danced.
She was so tired that she could not walk on.
It was so hot that we stayed indoors.
*5) so…that…如此……使得……;如此……以致……/ no sooner…than… 一……就…… / hardly/scarcely…when…一(刚)……就……/ not only…but (also)…不仅……而且……
如果把 so/ no sooner/ hardly/scarcely / not only 置于句首的话, 就需要半倒装, 半倒装一定要在so/ no sooner/ hardly/scarcely / not only引导的分句上.
eg: So loudly does the teacher speak that everyone can hear him clearly.
No sooner had I begun to speak than she cut in (插嘴).
Hardly/Scarcely had he finished his homework when he went out for play.
Not only was Einstein a world-famous scientist, but (also) a fairly good violinist.
*若not only…but (also)…连接两个并列主语时, 不用倒装语序, 且谓语动词形式依照
“就近一致”原则.
eg: Not only I but also Tom and Jerry are tired of having one exam(ination) after another.

such adj.+不可数名词
① so+adj.+a(n)+n. +that…
such a(n)+adj.+n. +that
eg: Here is such a big stone that nobody can lift it.
Here is so big a stone that nobody can lift it.
*复数名词和不可数名词的such的用法不能用so替换.
② 如果名词前的修饰语为many, few, much, little, 则习惯用so, 而不用 such.
即: so many/few+pl. +that…
so much/little+不可数名词 +that
eg: There are so many delicious food on the menu that I really don’t know where to start.
There are so many falls that I’m black and blue all over.
There was so little water left that only small children and patients were given some.
